Broken automatic window.

It does not use a gear tape for the regulator, it uses a cable system. If the cables r bad, u will need to repalce the whole regulator assembly.

But, before deciding that it needs a new regulator or motor, have it checked out at ur local dealer is service department.

There was a TSB for the door belt weatherstrips causing the window to move slowly, or stop. If it has an older design inner belt strip, they need to replace it with the newer design prior to replacing any other parts to see if that is the problem. Mention about the TSB when u take it in.

As you're most likely out of warranty by time unless u have an extended warranty that will cover it, ask (nicely) if they can cover it as a goodwill repair since there was a known problem with them & a TSB. Helps if you're the original owner, & the miles r still fairly low. May not happen (certainly do not count on it), but it never hurts to ask.

Unless it is been changed, the replacement regulator comes with a new motor on it, so no need to buy both if it does require a new regulator.

If the regulator comes with the motor already attached there is no worry about it coming apart. Unless u foolishly decide to take the motor off of it for some odd reason. Otherwise, it is simply removing the door panel & changing out the regulator assembly like on any other vehicle. If you're not comfortable with doing that, then by all means have a professional do it for you.

If you need to replace the regulator it would be best to have a dealer or body shop do it for you. This could unwrap itself on you and if it did, it is a real bear to get back together.
