why is my 1998 chrysler sebring a piece of junk

Lets see, it is 9 years old, and if it was not properly maintained, and was ragged out by people driving it too fast, then that might be your problem.

Because it is more Japanese than American. Mostly Mitsubishi underneath, not Chrysler like you would think.

Chrysler products were crap when they used Japanese components.

In my opinion, it is because it is a Chrysler product..I've owned 2 Dodge is and they were junk..Personally, I've had good luck with GM products.

Depending on whats under the hood would make it a ''Mitsubishi'' or not. the 2.0L & the 2.4L were true Chrysler engines built by Chrysler. The 2.5L V6 was a Mitsubishi engine however.

As far as for being junk? l would have to go w/ the first poster, more than likely it is because of the previous owners. Any car left unmaintained is gonna be ''junk''.

Personally l have a 96 Plymouth Breeze (aka Stratus, aka Sebring) with 120,000 miles on it. The previous owner took good care of it, l take good care of it. & it runs like a champ. (2.0L/5spd).

who knows since all the Chryslers l have owned, and all the Chryslers people l know have owned have all been good, high quality reliable cars. You just got a dud.

l have to agree with roadrunner.In 99 l bought a 94 dodge shadow with the 3 liter which was in exellent shape & within 2 years l put 1 engine2 transmissions,starter,alt,the list goes on & on.It does not matter if its chrysler or mitsubishi there both junk.Besides that 1 car l have always owned chevys & buicks & have had pretty good luck with them with no major problems & have gotten around 200000 miles out of all of them with only 1 or 2 trips to the shop a year mainly for small things.

There is nothing so terrible to go wrong with a Sebring. Maintenance by a proper tech, prevents most of the hate in your love/hate relationship. get a Honda/Toyota appliance and disappear into suburban anonimity.
