It could do 180 easily if it was the Roadrunner painted powder blue and the owner is last name was Petty.

Stock 440cu with 6 pack carbs = 140 mph.

you could theoretically figure out the top speed based on maximum obtainable rpm, tire diameter, and gear ratio, but it doesnt take in account for aerodynamics and horsepower, because after all you need enough power to push through the air. also if its an auto with a non lock up converter you have slippage to take into account also.

mph = (rpm x tire diameter) / (gear ratio x 336)

180 mph might happen out at Bonneville, with tall gears and the right stabilizers to keep it down. 180 on the street or strip is not too likely, but who knows? (unless you're in Canada, then 180 is possible with a lot of cars - in kilometers per hour).

Ray...with what engine trans and rear? Is it just a generic question?
A 383 auto stock RR top speed might be a 110 mph
A 440 6 pack/ auto would be good for a 124 mph.
A 426 manual stock would get you around 130 pmh..all with the right gearing,tires ect.

it can be un-limited depending on the engine, the gear ratio, or the transmission,with the right combination it would go faster than you could drive it,good luck.

180 is totally possible, & dont have to be in Canada.

It all depends on how much horsepower, to gear ratio u have.

With unlimites resources, 272 road gears in a Dana, 6 speed keisler, built & stroked 440 with dual quads pumping out over 1000 hp, maybe even faster.

Now, if talking quarter mile, I've seen'm go in the 8 second range in150 MPH range.

Stock, less, like 11-12 second range with a hemi & a dana at about 130 mph for the quarter. Again, top speed would be higher for 440 6-pack car with a stock sure-grip with 323 is in it.

Before l became a Mopar nut l was cruising at 90 in my 1969 chevelle & l had that vintage roadrunner pass me like l was standing still & he was on the highway doing 75.It would depend on motor & gearing a 440 with a 410 gear would not have that high a top speed.A 440 with a 323 would go over 150. l have seen the other side of 150 with a 440 powered c body. l knew somebody that had a built hemi charger & they had a quarter accelerator pedal left at 185.If it had a hemi & the right gearing it would have the highest top end that is why the hemi was used for nascar over the rb wedge motor.Road runner l did 150 with an unrebuilt 1965 383 somebody gave me. l did clean up the motor & added a used mild performance cam & double roller timing chain & a 780 cfm holley choke less race carb. l then stuck the 383 in a pickup with 323 gears & l had a well calibrated digital speedometer.Also l held it at that for over 5 miles & drove the truck for a few more years after that with no mechanical problems.

Speedo went to 120, it will do it, l wo not again.

My dad had a Road Runner back in the 70's, 383 4 speed. It would go just over 100 on top end & was turning around 6500 RPM at that speed. It was a rocket in the quarter though. l do not believe one would ever go 180, that is just blatant exaggeration. It would take, according to my friend is program, over 1700 horsepower to push the Road Runner is heavy, high drag body to that speed, assuming the car would not be lifted off the road by the air. Muscle cars were not just all that.
